It all started when…

Stella Kutz felt a deep need to create a place to dance and create in the South End. Locally raised, she studied under the watchful eye of Dale A. Merrill at Spectrum Dance Theater for 15 years, then received her BFA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and was lucky enough to perform frequently and internationally. She returned to Seattle to perform with Jerboa Dance, Relay Dance Collective, Pat Graney, Lucia Neare, Dance Contemporary, and more.

Then, when the lack of accessible dance and performance space in south Seattle began to vex her, so she did what she thought was right-she built her own. With a focus on community and helping artists achieve their vision, Stella strives to make Yaw Theater a thriving performance space where everyone feels welcome and supported. She continues on this journey, and hopes you will join her!
